USC QB Matt Barkley Injured

Matt Barkley, Insights #1 pick for the top college football quarterbacks of 2012, suffered an injury recently. Barkley sprained his shoulder after the USC Trojans lost to their rivals, the UCLA Bruins, with an ending score of 38-28. USC coach Lane Kiffin stated, "I feel bad for him and his family, this is obviously not how you want it to be." The QB was sacked with only 2 minutes remaining in the game, and received examination by training staff before walking off the field. This injury means that Barkley will have to sit out on the highly anticipated Notre Dame VS USC game on Saturday, which will be heartbreaking for fans.

Ex-Penn State president Graham Spanier released on bail

The inconceivable acts of sexual abuse towards minors, carried out by former Penn State football assistant coach Jerry Sandusky, lead to the forced resignation of past president of the university, Graham Spainer. Following this resignation, was the firing of head football coach Joe Paterno and athletic director Tim Curley. Sandusky was found guilty on 45 of the 48 malevolent counts of sexual abuse, and was sentenced to minimum 30 years in prison in early October. Spanier was put under major criticism when he released a statement out of support for his colleagues who were fired as a result of the case claiming that they, "operated at the highest levels of honesty." He failed to express any sympathy for the victims or the victims families of the controversy. Spanier was recently arrested and brought up on grand jury perjury, conspiracy, obstruction of justice and child endangerment charges. Wednesday's court appearance resulted in Spanier being released on bail. The bail was set at $125,000. He was ordered to forfeit his passport and provide fingerprints for police record. This is an ongoing case that has been in news headlines for a little over a year now and still continues to develop.

Former Longhorns Coach Darrell Royal Dies at 88

College Football fanatics everywhere mourn the loss of Darrell K Royal who passed yesterday morning at the age of 88. The University of Texas confirmed his death in Austin. During 23 years as one of the most innovative and acclaimed coaches,  Royal never had a losing season. He went on to win 11 Southwest Conference titles, 10 Cotton Bowl championships and national championships in 1963 and 1969, going 11-0 each time. Fans across the Country will remember Royal for his Best-remembered game called "The Big Shootout", which occurred December of '69.  Top-ranked Texas rallied to defeat second-ranked Arkansas, 15-14, at Fayetteville, Ark., while Richard Nixon was in attendance.  With an astonishing record such as this one, it's safe to say that the college football world has lost a true legend. He is more than determined to win the national title, and has USC on track to win the championship in January. Barkley's astonishing 2011 stats were –– 9,054 yards, 80 touchdowns, and is Athlon's first-team All-American quarterback for 2012. The college senior ranks third in USC history, with 9,013 career yards and 80 touchdown passes.

Starting last season off as a Heisman candidate, then ending the year in major disappointment, Landry Jones announced that he will forgo the draft with hopes that he can lead the Sooners to victory. Aaron Murray, Georgia Bulldogs

Although Aaron Murray's stats took a hit from his freshman year, he has been named as the 2012 preseason All-SEC East quarterback pick. After embarrassing wins over Boise State and South Carolina, Murray led the Bulldogs to 10 consecutive wins. During the final 6 games of 2011 he completed 60 percent of his passes for 17 touchdowns.

Tajh Boyd, Clemson Tigers

Last but certainly not least, Tajh Boyd is remembered for leading the most explosive offenses in college football, leading to the teams first 10 win season since 1990! Although the upcoming junior struggled toward the end of the season, finishing 2011 with 3,828 yards, 33 TDs, 12 INTs and a 141.2 passer rating, his incredible athleticism gives Clemson a fighting chance for the championship.
